About the Authors
 David M. Walker (B.A. University of Lancaster; M.A. University of Kent; Ph.D. University of Manchester) is lecturer in politics at the University of Newcastle. For the last 15 years he has taught courses on a range of aspects of political theory, including socialism and Marxism. He is a member of the United Kingdom Political Studies Association Marxism Specialist Group, and his publications include the book Marx, Methodology and Science and articles for the journal Studies in Marxism. He has just completed a booklet on historical materialism for British A-Level students, and is currently editing a book on Marxist thought in the 20th century.
 Daniel Gray has a degree in politics and history from the University of Newcastle, England, and has written on the practical application of Welsh socialist pioneer Robert Owen’s ideas at New Lanark, and on German intervention in the Spanish civil war. He is currently on a sabbatical from academia working for the National Library of Scotland and writing on politics for Holyrood Magazine and on football for Middlesbrough Football Club’s award-winning magazine Fly Me to the Moon.
